Exploring South America’s wingshooting destinations opens the door to diverse landscapes, bird species, and hunting styles. Each lodge is set in a region with its unique character, from lush wetlands to open plains, offering different types of hunting and experiences to match. With so many regions, each with their own traits, the amount of information can be overwhelming, especially if its you’re first time headed south for a hunt. If all of this is new to you, or you just need a refresher, here’s some of what you need to know, as well as my recommendations to some great lodges in each province.

Buenos Aires Province – Argentina

Buenos Aires province in Argentina offers a diverse wingshooting experience, with opportunities for duck, dove, and perdiz hunting across its expansive wetlands and farmlands. Known for its proximity to the vibrant capital city, this region combines exciting hunts with easy access to Argentina’s cultural heart. Hunters here enjoy not only the thrill of the sport but also the rich culinary and cultural experiences that make Buenos Aires a world-renowned destination.

Estancia Santa RitaBuenos Aires Province, Argentina – Opportunities to hunt up to 12 different species of migratory ducks within 10 – 45 minutes from the estancia in the surrounding wetlands. An added bonus, Perdiz hunts are available based on season and population.

  1. 6 – spacious rooms with en-suite bathrooms allow for minimum groups of 3 and up to 10 guests to enjoy the historic 100-year-old Estancia.
  2. Estancia Santa Rita is an excellent option for experienced duck hunters and beginners alike. Everyone will have numerous opportunities for decoyed birds that are not as spooked by hunters and blinds like you find in the U.S.
  3. This Lodge is easily paired with the Limay River Lodge to turn your trip into a Blast and Cast.

Córdoba Province

Córdoba province in Argentina is celebrated worldwide for its exceptional dove hunting, set against a backdrop of scenic hills and fertile valleys. The region’s mild climate and rich agricultural fields attract countless doves, offering hunters an exhilarating and dynamic experience in the field. In addition to the superb hunting, Córdoba’s charming lodges provide the perfect retreat after a day outdoors, with warm hospitality and fine local wines and cuisine.

La Torcaza LodgeCórdoba Province, Argentina – a David Denies lodge located 95 miles northwest of Córdoba City, the colonial style property built in the 1600’s offers a historic escape in the heart of Argentina. La Torcaza has some of the best decoyed pigeon hunting in the country. Pigeon hunting includes the best parts of duck hunting minus waking up early and cold weather.

  1. The lodge can accommodate up to 10 hunters with 1 double room and 8 single rooms spread out across the lodge grounds.
  2. La Torcaza is a great lodge for shooters looking to take a break from the field. The staff can arrange historical tours and shopping trips, horseback riding, tennis, and more for a fee. Some of the other amenities located on the grounds of La Torcaza include a swimming pool, and an on-call masseuses.
  3. Due to the location of the Lodge, you can easily pair a few days of pigeon hunting with a few days of dove shooting at one of the other David Denies Lodges located in the Córdoba Province.
  4. The pigeons themselves offer a little more sporting shoot. Movement in the blind can flare the birds away and spook off other prospective birds looking to land in the high-quality decoys that are placed in front of each blind.
  5. With daily limits of around 140 birds per shooter, you will have plenty of action and good times trying your shooting at these frisky birds.
  6. Pigeon hunting is now a personal favorite that deserves more recognition!

Pica Zuro LodgeCórdoba Province, Argentina – The first lodge David Denies opened in the Córdoba Region, still ranks as one of the best dove lodges in Argentina. For a first-time shooter in South America, Pica Zuro is a great place to start!

  1. Pica Zuro is perfect for medium to large group of up to 12 guests in 5 twin rooms and 5 single rooms. With short drive times to the shooting fields, you can really maximize your days out shooting doves.
  2. As with all David Denies Lodges, Pica Zuro offers a first-class dining experience and personalized service. The staff is more than willing to accommodate about any request you may have.
  3. The Spanish colonial estancia offers plenty to do while not in the field. The lodge houses a large traditional dining room adjacent to a comfortable sitting room with a nearby bar. The recreation room offers a billiards table, with a sitting area and bar. There is also a gun cleaning room and 2 masseuse rooms. Guests can also enjoy time in the swimming pool, spa with dry sauna and jacuzzi, or just relax in the sitting area aside from one of the two outdoor fire pits. Historical tours, shopping trips, and horseback riding can also be arranged from the lodge for a fee.
  4. Although dove numbers may be down from its heyday in 80s & 90s. This is still a great location for first timers looking to try their hand at dove hunting. I can say from experience, there are still more birds than I knew what to do with!

San Luis Province

San Luis province in Argentina is known for its stunning landscapes, ranging from rolling hills to expansive plains, making it an appealing destination for wingshooters. This region offers excellent opportunities for hunting both dove and pigeon, attracting enthusiasts looking for a dynamic hunting experience. With its warm hospitality and comfortable lodge, San Luis provides a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation for those eager to explore the great outdoors.

El Monte Lodge is nestled in the picturesque village of Yacanto, strategically positioned between the rolling hills of Córdoba and the expansive valley of San Luis Province. The lodge enjoys exclusive access to a vast array of agricultural fields, where sunflowers, peanuts, wheat, sorghum, and corn are cultivated. This diverse landscape creates an ideal environment for exceptional dove and pigeon shooting experiences, offering unparalleled opportunities for both novice and seasoned hunters.

  1. Originally constructed in 1900 by engineers of the early British Railroad, this charming Victorian home has been beautifully renovated to preserve its character.
  2. The property boasts a relaxed, tastefully decorated English country home, offering six beautifully appointed bedrooms. Each room is equipped with a private bathroom and is furnished with either twin beds or king-sized beds, tailored to your preferences for a comfortable and restful stay.
  3. Guests are invited to relax and enjoy their stay at their own pace. Additionally, a variety of thoughtfully organized activities are available, catering specifically to non-shooting guests, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Santiago Del Estero

Santiago del Estero province in Argentina is a wingshooter’s haven, renowned for its secluded dove hunting. Its warm climate and vast agricultural lands create ideal conditions, drawing countless doves to the region year-round. Here, hunters experience an unmatched blend of thrilling hunts and beautiful, rugged landscapes.

Santiago Del EsteroSantiago del Estero Province, Argentina – Reminiscent of the good ol’ days of dove hunting in Argentina, bird numbers in the region are higher than what you may find in the Cordoba Province where dove hunting earned its stripes.

  1. Santiago Del Estero is one of the more remote hunting lodges that David Denies offers. Most travelers will fly through Santiago de Chile or Buenos Aires. There are connecting flights to the Cordoba Airport where the lodge is roughly a 4.5-hour drive, or you can fly into the Santiago Del Estero Airport which cuts the drive time down to about 40 minutes – 1 hour. Private charter flights can also be arranged to take you to the private landing strip on the lodge grounds. (Note: Weather and luggage weights can impact private charter flights)
  2. The Spanish-styled manse with sprawling courtyards offers classic accommodations for 14-17 guests. With 8 private rooms each with a king size bed, plus 3 double rooms, there is plenty of room for family and friends to experience this trip of a lifetime.
  3. Each room also includes air conditioning and heating due to the fluctuating temperatures throughout the year. Something to note, the summer months at Santiago Del Estero can be very hot.
  4. When not in the field, Santiago Del Estero offers a secluded escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Featuring a pool table, massage room, a spectacular wine cellar, and TV room that cater to all your needs. You can take a dip in outdoor plunge pool or unwind in the sitting area by the fire pit after a work-out in the on-site fitness room.
  5. The lodge staff is always available to help with any requests and you can always expect a moist towel and tasty beverage waiting for you upon your return from the fields.

Entre Ríos Province

Entre Ríos province in Argentina is known for its superb duck and dove hunting, set amid lush wetlands and scenic rivers. This region’s abundant water sources create ideal conditions for waterfowl, offering an unforgettable experience for wingshooters. With welcoming lodges and beautiful landscapes, Entre Ríos provides a perfect mix of challenging hunts and relaxing environments.

Estancias El Rincon and Santa Rosa – Entre Ríos Province, located near Gualeguay. Both estancias offer ‘Three Feathers’ which provides the opportunity to hunt the perfect combination of duck, dove and perdiz, offering a rewarding challenge for even the most experienced and skilled hunters.

  1. The original Estancia El Rincon, built in 1890, has been thoughtfully refurbished and upgraded to restore it to the grandeur of its early days. Featuring 8 spacious bedrooms and 4 well-appointed bathrooms, it comfortably accommodates groups of up to 14 hunters.
  2. Estancia Santa Rosa is housed in the beautifully remodeled headquarters of a working racehorse farm, featuring 8 bedrooms and 7 baths and can comfortably accommodate 14 hunters.
  3. The day begins with a wake-up call around 5:00 a.m., followed by breakfast and a transfer to the duck shooting area. The duck shoot is so prolific that you’ll likely reach your limit early in the morning, leaving ample time for an additional shooting opportunity. Afterward, return to the estancia for cocktails and a delicious lunch. In the afternoon, enjoy high-volume dove shooting, with time for a siesta in between.
  4. You can opt for a third hunt: Perdiz over pointing dogs, available at an additional cost. Both morning and afternoon sessions offer the option to add or substitute a perdiz shoot for an additional cost.

Uruguay

Uruguay offers a unique and varied wingshooting experience, with opportunities to hunt doves, pigeons, ducks, and perdiz across its picturesque countryside. The country’s rolling farmland and open grasslands create ideal habitats for these game birds, making it a top destination for wingshooters seeking a mix of hunting styles. In Uruguay, hunters enjoy a welcoming atmosphere, excellent hospitality, and prime access to diverse hunting opportunities.

Carmelo LodgeCarmelo, Uruguay – Situated in the heart of Uruguay’s wine country, on an operational vineyard, Carmelo Lodge offers arguably some of the best dove hunting in South America.

  1. With a capacity of up to 14-guns in 10 fully outfitted rooms, this is a great location for larger parties to enjoy.
  2. Carmelo Lodge is an excellent option for experienced shooters or anyone looking for a challenge. Due to the topography of the surrounding area, shooters can have chances at highflying birds. The guides can also situate the guests into easier shooting positions.
  3. Due to the location of Carmelo Lodge, shooters and non-shooters have the opportunity to arrange tours of local vineyards as well as the town of Carmelo.
  4. Carmelo Lodge has excellent amenities to enjoy while not in the field, have a cocktail by the pool, hot tub, or play some pool in the game room.

San Juan LodgeFlores Province, Uruguay – One of the best Mixed-Bag lodges for Dove, Duck, and Perdiz hunting. Located 145 miles outside of Montevideo. The new 5-bedroom lodge sits majestically atop a knoll with a striking 360° view of the Uruguayan countryside.

  1. San Juan accommodates up to 10 guests in five bedrooms, each with a bathroom and fireplace.
  2. Due to the location of the lodge, guests have access to the Perdiz capital of South America. With expertly trained pointers, guest will enjoy countless hard-flushing Perdiz opportunities.
  3. A modern rendition of a traditional Uruguayan stone house, the brand-new lodge combines authentic architecture with modern luxury.
  4. Like all of the David Denies Lodges, guests can expect a 5-star dining experience paired with local wines from the heart Uruguay’s wine country.

Estancia La BellacaMaldonado Province, Uruguay – An easy 45-minute drive from Montevideo, provides access to arguably one of the most luxurious Mixed-Bag destinations in South America. Providing opportunities for pigeon, perdiz, and dove all within 10 – 45 minutes of the lodge. Nestled in the “Sierra de Minas” hills country the 15,000 sq.ft. estancia was completed in 2013.

  1. Renowned decorator Carol Raquet fully decorated and landscaped the lodge. The stunning lodge offers great views of the lush countryside and its one-of-a-kind property.
  2. La Bellaca is perfect for smaller groups between 4-6 hunters. Which has been adjusted to provide the maximum level of service for each guest.
  3. The lodge is also located only 45 minutes from Punta del Este which is commonly known as the Riviera of South America.
  4. With its secluded location, La Bellaca is a premier destination with little to no pressure from other Wingshooting operations and the world class staff will make sure you are guaranteed to be in the prime shooting locations.
