Swimming-620

Sept, 2014: Those who know and have fished with me know my affection for swimming in all the great rivers of the world. Whether by design or happenstance, I have been in many – the Rio Grande in Tierra del Fuego, Argentina; the Ponoi River, Russia; the Rio Simpson, Coyhaique Chile and the Copper River, Alaska – just to name a few.

So why should I not add the Sustut River, British Columbia to a very long and distinguished list? The river was rather low and the section I swam was quite tame, however, I managed an excellent dunking. I found the Sustut to be bold at first with a rather smooth finish, not overbearing, leaving me with a cool, cleansed feeling and wanting for more. Overall, I rank swimming this river very high on the list and strongly recommend it.

Today, our boat of anglers brought in three fine steelhead to hand with our most senior boat partner, Tom, besting the two young “professional anglers” with two bright bucks well over 30-inches each.

Congratulations for a fine day, Tom, you stayed the course, casted relentlessly and earned both prize fish. Chris, a guide from Livingston, Montana also brought a 30-plus inch fish to the boat and rolled more than a few swinging a variation of a Titanic Fly.
